More Than Just A Game

Since hosting the Rugby World Cup in 1999, the Millennium Stadium has quickly established itself as a world-class sporting venue and more importantly, has developed an enviable reputation as a rugby experience not to be missed. It is now a firm fan’s favourite and both the city of Cardiff and the game of rugby have grown in stature in recent years, thanks largely to the charm and character of this unique and colourful stadium.

Perfectly positioned in the heart of the welsh capital, the stadium embodies convenience and ease, thus party-mad rugby fans never have to travel too far for their favorite beer before and after the game, making it a refreshing change from cities who choose to position their sporting venues on the outskirts of town.

Millennium Stadium is a bold and imposing structure over Cardiff, in a city devoid of a high rise skyline, this place is hard to miss! The 74,500 all seater capacity makes for a boisterous atmosphere and the noise levels, particularly during a chorus of the national anthem of Wales, are really something to behold. This anthem, of course, is sung with a touch more fervor when bitter rivals England come to town!

Watching rugby here is a pleasure and experience not quickly forgotten. Everything that is great about live sport can be found here on match day, be it a Six Nations test match or a Heineken Cup final. The noise and carnival atmosphere are what make it so special and every rugby fan will agree, few stadiums can match this one for a deafening roar!

Munster rugby fans in particular have made this a home away from home and go to great lengths to secure tickets and any available accommodation. Cardiff hotels are well used to operating at full capacity on rugby weekends (park benches are in demand when these guys come to town!).

The ace up its sleeve is of course, the retractable roof, a work of engineering brilliance, allowing all weather viewing and spectator coverage. But what it really does is boost the noise levels when closed. The noises rushes to ground level and is transmitted to the players who respond, and it is this that truly highlights the appeal of watching rugby in the Millennium Stadium, the fact that the fans can participate and do their bit in securing their team’s all important victory. The traveling army of fans is almost a 16th man and nowhere is the bond between the fans and the players stronger than here. In this special stadium, you can feel the memories forming in your head before the game has kicked off! It is more than viewing pleasure, it is chance to say you were there, and not many people have stories good enough to repeat year after year.
