What could be the next Hip-Hop classic was recorded in Atlanta, GA during late hours of the city’s first winter storm of the year. While most were salting up walkways or preventing pipes from freezing, two artists met and created new heat from the region of the U.S. that has always been a mecca for new, original entertainment.
While the collaboration is still an “untitled” piece of work, business associates have created a buzz over the chemistry heard between the two.

Duece Poppi
Born in Atlanta and raised in Miami, Duece Poppi emerged from the city’s violent ghettos with a lyrical gift for storytelling on Miami’s hard-hitting, bass-thumping tracks. After working his way into Trick Daddy’s crew, Trick quickly put Duece to work at Slip N Slide Records and the rest, as they say, is history. Deuce promptly found himself co-writing the smash hit, “Shut Up” where the opportunity to write on a hit record with an idol is one that most protégées wait their entire careers for. Since then, Duece has been incessantly writing hooks and songs while producing music for his Afro-Punk-fusion group, The Needles (featured on his music label, Rebel Music). Prema LaNay
The gift of a flute from her Grandfather sparked Prema’s love of music as a young child. She wrote short stories in grade school advanced to poetry then into chorus-filled stories. After working with independent labels as a songwriter, the storyteller thought about inserting herself into the picture. She tailored her sound into a one-of-a-king deliverance that only a true artist can give. The same person to distinguish the gifts of Eminem, Stevie Nicks, and Gwen Stefani was prompted to state what he observed contained by Prema LaNay. “You are the next sound of music,” the new artist was told with not a blink of the music mogul’s eye. As Dr. Dre introduced Eminem’s tape to Jimmy Iovine, Cee Lo Green of Gnarls Barkley delivered on a cd. Just in a matter of a couple months before that night, Green was asked to hear music that a petite Georgia peach passionately grew over the years before. Once Cee Lo played the voice of the songwriter turned vocalists, Iovine took a quick look at her image and requested her to be flown out to the Santa Monica office. During a 5 day stay, LaNay was provided the label’s recording studio, given her choosing from some of Dr. Dre’s selection of artworks to work with, and sat in for a few of the co-founder’s meetings together with other potential talent. As the talents sat adjacent to Jimmy, they complimented the work of Prema, who did not know how these individuals previously knew her.

Many have heard Prema LaNay’s music as it was transferred from Iovine’s office, to the car, and so on. Close friends such as, music producer, Polow Da Don were being told from their Interscope acquaintance about this new musical find. Right after her visit, LaNay sealed her direct deal to the major distributor. A direct deal was granted for the fact that, as an artist, no independent label molded her project. For the few years before, Prema had hunted for sounds and through distinctive “beat makers” and studios developed herself as an artist, amid advice from entertainment friends.

Now what seems a blessing is also another challenge for an artist from a city where most entertainment companies are more accustomed to developing their artists then respecting them as business partners. Back in Atlanta, Prema found herself to be “over-qualified” for the majority hip-hop tailored independent labels within arms reach. It was hoped by Interscope that an independent label would respect what they did of the artist that would mainly just need strategic marketing services more than artist development in a deal. She finds her music and creates classic hits in studios with just an engineer. The complete concept is already in her head from the beginning. After her most recent project was completed, she also composed storyboards and detailed narratives of 10 videos ready for shooting. Even though, the major label signed her directly due to her formation of the project, compensation was given to Radiculture Records in hopes to aid with the exposure of Prema. With no contractual agreement to do so, Prema was left to search for for outside assistance.

Instead of shaping an artist, the opportunity seemed to good to be true for most. The opportunity being that an artist signed and endorsed by a major needs nothing more than a business team now. Instead of partnering with a major distributor with her as nothing more than their artist or hoping to sell her to them, an independent would only have to the partnership with Prema who has already partnered with the major.

So, the missing piece of the puzzle is finding the small company ready to expose a product that is automatically promised.

Kulturez Clothing was quick to snatch the opportunity. While working with the regular crowd at MJQ, coordinator Quic had other designers and even musical performers at his fingertips. As frequent visitors of the place, Mad Clout, Sol Munkie, and even Plush.357 were within a PBR’s reach to make an event happen. With entertainment and outfits in line, Quic was able to announce “The MJQ Fashion Show.”

On September 13th, 2008, MJQ will be able to showcase the fashions that many wait for an MTV2 video to premiere. If anyone was looking for the bright, Crayola colored shirts and sneakers before The Cool Kids Premiere, the “below the asphalt dance club” was where to find it years ago. Especially, on the well-crowded Wednesday nights when the side room called, “The Café” has shoulder to shoulder circles filled with break-dance battles.

A newcomer may be surprised to order a drink and find Dallas Austin or Cee-Lo Green standing right next to him. MJQ is loved for just the simple fact that there is not VIP areas or a UFO-style lit ceiling. It is dark enough to comfort any left-footer to let loose and any celebrity to simply fit in the crowd.

Kulturez’s night vision is extremely strong when finding the right elements for the huge event. The show will be more than just a runway of the well dressed but, also have sounds from the greats like DJ Lord of Public Enemy and DJ Mafioso. Live performances were a choice that needed much precision.

After booking performers like The Audacity, Quic finally got his bid on the new music sizzler out of Atlanta. As an endorsement from the host, D.R.E.S. Tha Beatnik, Prema LaNay was one of the top 3 performers for his Main Ingredient event held at the same venue. Quic took a listen and acted on his name to book the magnetizing artist as the opener for the one-of-a-kind extravaganza.

The hip-hop rock guitarist, Spree Wilson jumped at the chance to help the youth while, at the same, snatching a chance to perform for potential music lovers dealing with hard economic times.

“Especially around the holidays when pockets are low but family love is high, an event like this is needed,” said by Prema LaNay while discussing the lineup with Kirk Underwater. “I know those that have not heard of one or any of us will be satisfied and rewarded for coming out to support Toys for Tots.”

Gripplyaz, an artist also originating from Atlanta, has been a part of a few PBR entertainment events. While he holds a sound his own called “Grip Hop,” the variety of the concert will provide even rock lovers a treat with the electric vibes of Spree Wilson. The atmosphere will be provided by Pabst Blue Ribbon at Lenny’s Bar near the historical Cabbagetown in downtown Atlanta.
