Most don’t know where to start when trying to gauge what a new website will cost. There are so many website models and options, and so many developers who have their own ways of offering the services. There are part timers, mom and pop shops, independents, kids in high school, and so many more, what we like to call, “hobbyists.” These days, everyone has an opinion on what things should cost and no one knows who to believe. Here is an honest conversation on some things to expect as far as website pricing options will go how those in this field commonly offer their services.

Generally speaking, if one chooses an independent contractor, that person will pay less than he or she chooses a design agency with personnel. With an independent contractor one may or may not get the same type of manpower or hands on planning and development one will get at a medium sized or large design office, but if you are willing to take things at a slower pace (not always true but often the case), and can find someone who can do the entire job you require, you can get a just as good quality product.

Website design projects most often range in price from between $1,500 and $75,000 for a standard website (enterprise level projects can be much more), and between $350 and $10,000 for a logo and style guide. A good hire knows there are only so many corners one can cut with a website, and certain time consuming things always have to be done, such as quality coding and search engine optimization best practices for a variety of browsers and operating systems.

Keep Website Design Costs Down

The following are all things one can do to make a website project more attractive at a lower price:

Outline or wireframe what website pages are required and the functionality you would like one each page.

Prepare your website content so ready to put on the site, including photos and text;

Meet your deadlines.

Review design concepts quickly and be available to discuss and communicate feedback to your website design company as they request feedback be delivered.

Know your competitors and websites you are trying to beat.

Know what websites you like so your website design company knows what you like.

Hourly Rate, Fixed Price, or a Hybrid of Both?

All three website development pricing options below have their advantages and disadvantages for both clients and designers. We recommend the third option.

Fixed Price. This model is often quite helpful to clients because budgeting is made more simple. However, if every aspect of the project is not clearly defined and articulated, a condition called “project creep” may come up where a client will make requests for little website extras at every stage of the project. Project Creep often results in quite a bit of extra work designers who do not anticipate these requests and are then expected to do for no additional fees. The benefit of a fixed price website project for the designer is there is no penalty for working efficiently and getting the job done on time or ahead of time, and that the web site designer does not have to be as strict with time tracking.

Hourly Rate. We find people want to know an hourly rate up front. Less experienced designers may find it difficult to give a realistic ballpark on how many hours a project will actually take. This risk is even higher when you work with a website agency or developer for the first time. Optimists might underestimate the website project and you will end up over your budget in a very short time. An advantage to the client by working hourly is both sides can quickly move on high priority changes without the need for the estimate process. Hourly rates should vary based on project work. Agencies must understand the client can take lighter updates elsewhere for a fraction of the cost. Note hourly rates are deceptive and should be flexible based on type of work. Web design companies will discount more basic work and bill fractional hours to keep the client’s business under one roof.

Hybrid, Best of Both Worlds? This is a great way to work because some projects can be flat quoted and some work may be unknown. ATAK Interactive, a Los Angeles Web Design company recommends this approach, and feels hybrid style project estimation/quoting is accomplishable by clearly stating at the outset what hourly rates are and mentioning flat quotes will be delivered as much as possible and when appropriate. This way, everyone’s budget is happy and the client isn’t afraid to ask for extra work because they know they will see a quote/estimation of some sort before they approve any project. Quotes can be given, with options, and the client can decide what is best for them. The designer is compensated for extra work, and must ask for hourly hours when needed, such as when and new technologies come about and require study. Social Media Marketing, a relatively new field, would be a good example of this circumstance.

Furthermore, he explains common types of website design pricing like hourly rates, fixed prices and a hybrid of both, which are used in the industry today. Web design agencies should take the time to listen to their clients and put together a plan for their company that will meet or exceed their expectations for developer interaction and design deliverable.

Here the author David Ephraim writes about step-by-step guide to website design process. He guides you through the website design process to simplify how ATAK Interactive, a Los Angeles web design company and other agencies work with their clients.

Web sites need a strategy and implementation plan, and website owners should know there is a big difference between a graphic designer “who makes websites” and a real website master or website agency. A website is a multi dimensional interactive experience and it is significantly different than the thought process that goes into making a flat design for printing. In 2010 and beyond, website owners need to make smart moves, and hiring the right web design company will save a ton of money and time.

Below are some quick tips and guidance about website design before you start your project.

1. Do not hire a print graphic designer who “also does websites, sometimes.” You will be calling ATAK Interactive or an agency like ours in a few months. Print designers are great…at print design. The strategy of website design is completely different. This also applies to home network engineers who “do websites sometimes.” Businesses need a web development team who knows how to think “web” and understand user experience planning.

2. Does your site have a landing page, or a flash intro? If it does, start over. If your website requires the home page to load and then launches in a pop up (mostly a flash site issue), start over. Get your message to your users within a couple of seconds and they will stay. It is hard to keep people watching the “show” whether audio or video or both for too long. Web sites DO NOT need to load in a pop up window and do not need 20 second sequences to get the message across.

3. Your website content is just as important as your website design. Search engines love KEYWORD RICH TEXT. Make sure your home page has a welcome message with keywords users will use to find your service or goods. The website design agency you hire should provide you with some recommendations or a quote to do this for you.

4. Don’t hide what you do. People want to understand your business and figure your site out fast. Hit users with a strong message and guide the user types to the sections you want each to see. Segment your site by allocating clear sections to important/featured pieces you want users to see and let them dig deeper by clicking on prominent call to action buttons. Make it clear for users to get to where they need to go.

5. Make your buttons easy to understand. Redesign your buttons or place them more prominently if your users cannot tell where your website buttons will take them.

6. Follow navigation standards and best practices. People are used to common standards where the navigation is across the top or on the left hand side. User tend to be annoyed and lost in your site if you over design and get inefficiently creative. Websites with inefficiencies quickly lose their interest. Also make sure to have a contact us page and a site map because they are essential for search and the conversion of traffic to $$$$. Study competitors too, and beat them.

7. Users will leave immediately if your website is designed for broadband users only. Many people still have slow mobile networks and home networks…believe it. Make your home page, especially, as fast loading as possible. Use large file types and high resolution graphics files on inner website pages, when and only if users are specifically requesting it.

8. If you have a search feature, make sure it is necessary and useful. A 7 page website does not need a search field. Sites should be easy enough to navigate without them. If you have a ton of products for your ecommerce website, search could very well be needed. Sometimes advanced search works even better. Make sure your search tool works!

9. If you put audio or video with audio on your website, let users turn it off. People browse at work, on a bus, at the mall…everywhere. Embarrass them and they will resent you. ATAK Interactive recommends you make the default setting for any home page music as off, and let users click on the on button if they want to hear your site music.

10. When you have a landing page that says “would you like to visit our high resolution site or our low resolution site” you are really asking your potential customer, “would you like to go to my ugly store, or my pretty one?” You have a poor website design if your website asks users if they would like to open a low or high bandwidth website. The same principal applies. The problem with high bandwidth sites is that they are “supposedly” the better store, but in reality they take forever to load. Think about the user experience and who ATAK Interactive likes to call the “lowest common denominator” (design and program so that the system allows for the simplest minds to understand) and keep it simple, clean, fast, and seo friendly.

11. Text navigations are better than images but this is not a huge deal. We are just saying that, if you can, use text with clever CSS. Again, images and flash are great when used in a smart fashion, but keyword rich text and clean code is really king.

12. Do not, in any way, let your website use any code that forces the user’s browser window to resize, reconfigure, whatever. This trick is mostly used in spam websites and people negatively associate that feature automatically.

13. New technology is cool, but it does not mean you need to have it. This happened with some of the more colorful and visual programming languages flash, java, and ajax. Only use these tools when they improve the user experience, not for the sake of technology. Consider your goals.

14. Your website must work in Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, and should even look good in Opera and on mobile devices if your users require. Welcome to 2010 ladies and gents! Make sure your website designers can do this before you start your new website design project. You cannot afford to lose market share thanks to oversights like this. Some web developers offer these services, but do not include them as standard. Please make sure you ask what systems your website will display on perfectly.

15. Drop down menus are good as compliments but you should always try to get all of your important page titles into your navigations logically (top and left). Make your sites easy to navigate and quickly find information.

16. Deliver your video in an embedded player. Flash video is good and is cross platform and cross browser compatible. This is not necessarily true in the mobile website world yet and mobile website owners need to move with caution right now. Flash is wonderful for animation, interfaces, adding functionality, and more but this DOES NOT mean your entire website needs to be flash. All flash sites set you at a disadvantage in web marketing against smarter competition. You can embed pieces of flash into your smartly coded website. There are exceptions in the cases of companies that have such great brand recognition and outside marketing, that Search traffic is not their primary concern. In those cases the image and quality of brand become the primary focus.

Keep these website rules in mind for 2010 and beyond. Your website is your 24/7 business front. Think user experience first, search engines second, browser compatibility third, competitors to beat fourth, and don’t forget to hire a website or ecommerce website design company that has a good track record and success stories. Good websites are always changing and improving. Update your website frequently and monitor competition so you make sure to beat them.

Further he explains some quick website design tips which you need to take in consider to start designing your website.

A quick guide on how to build and design a website, efficiently. The following web site design process will ensure your website is a top your industry now and for years beyond.

Please note that there are an infinite amount of variables that can change how a web site is developed and delivered. Website design projects are never perfectly clear cut and therefore the process/sequence must vary from time to time based on requirements, changes, and customer expectations. Los Angeles web design clients who work in Hollywood may be far more critical than say someone from North Dakota who owns a small motel. A store with one product will have fewer website design needs than the Los Angeles Dodgers. This guide will get you started on the right path.

Step 1: Meet and Greet

One will want to start a website design project with a client meeting. Together, the website designer and the customer need to establish what needs to be done, who is responsible for what role (content, images, logo files, design approval), who are all points of contact on both sides, and other specific customer and developer expectations.

Step 2: Brainstorming

As part of the meet and greet, brainstorming is vital. What is the web site for? Who are the competitors? Who is the top competitor? Who are we trying to beat? Who is the target demographic? What is important and what is not? What needs to be on every page of the website? Is this a Website for Los Angeles Website customers only or do people from all over the world come to this site?

Tip: A flowchart is a great tool to use here. Create the home page and stem from that to create all pages you need. Include all features per page that you need such as customer login, clickable PDF files, interactive forms, photo gallery applications, etc.

Step 3: Wireframe or Hand Drawing

Many people have no idea what a wireframe is but in website design this is very important for a designer. A wireframe is a sketch or skeleton drawing of the website pages showing all of the elements and functions the web page should have once designed. A wireframe will include the header (with elements needed), the navigation with all of the buttons required, specific body/middle area sections of the page such as an area for flash animation or segmented marketing boxes for different user types, and footer information.

A wireframe does not need to include graphic design elements. It is used to solve, at the get go, any problems or missing elements and acts as the blueprint for your design, content, and coding.

Step 4: Content Planning

With a wireframe and page breakdown it is now time to write the content that needs to go onto every web page. Generally, the client or an outside content writer will put together the content and send to the website design team. Writing content is the largest workload for the client during a website design project and can take a lot of time. ATAK Interactive suggests that you closely look at competitors to make sure you include everything they do best and then beat them.

Step 5: Initial Design

While the customer works on step 4, the website designer can work on the home page design which, once approved, will serve as the canvas/template for the rest of the site. It is best to design the home page first and once the client approves move on to the rest of the pages.

Step 6: Client Feedback

The customer must view the website design files (home page only) and approve or offer corrections. The customer needs to check that you are meeting expectations and headed in the right directions. This is the time for the customer to offer their expert industry opinion.

Step 7: Design Rework

A little back and forth is required here. A website designer should expect to do a few revisions to each page and the customer should expect an opportunity to provide feedback. Generally, a website design company is responsible for setting the ground rules on how many revisions will be included and at what point extra fees will be required.

Step 8: Client Approval

The client must approve the home page design once the necessary work and additional work after feedback is complete. The confirmation process in a main responsibility of the client.

Step 9: Additional Page Design

The home page will serve as the skeleton for all inner pages. Once the home page is approved the website designer or design team should then design all inner pages for the website.

Step 10: Confirmation

After doing a little more back and forth (revisions) the client must approve all page designs. This approval must happen before moving on to actual coding because design changes beyond this point take more time to update than they would before coding begins

Step 11: Build the HTML and the CSS…Don’t forget SEO!

A website designer can now begin to build the actual HTML and CSS…converting the designs into a working web site. Make sure to include appropriate build for search engines and include title tags, keywords, and searchable content.

Step 12: Client Presentation

Once the website is ready, the client needs a final opportunity to review and offer any feedback or correction needs so the website is perfectly polished for launch.

Step 13: Test

This is the last hard step. Test, test some more, and test again. Check code, check keywords, check all text to make sure there are no misspellings or inaccuracies. Check cross browser functionality (i.e. Internet Explorer and Firefox) to make sure the website design look good across all mediums.

Step 14: Launch

Go Live! Now is the time to launch the website to the public. Be sure to check the site every day for about two weeks to make sure nothing funky is going on and perhaps ask some of your colleagues or family members to review as well.

Step 15: Revisit

A good website design is one that is always current. Keep updating, tweaking, and improving. The search engines change their rules too so make sure you are on top of your game, or your web designer is. A good tool to install (free) is Google Analytics which helps you monitor user interaction with the site.

As a result, a good web design will attract more and more internet visitors. And ATAK Interactive, a Los Angeles Web Design is among the best ones to build such a site.

Here the author, David Ephraim has listed down steps as to how a site can be built and how it can be made effective and attractive too. Plus He would suggest you to consult www.ATAKInteractive.com, a Los Angeles based Web Design company for more details.

The Ecommerce world is one of the most lucrative industries to be involved in and lot of people endeavor into starting up their own online store or business. Ecommerce website owners often ask “what does it take for a web site to succeed?” There are many factors but here is a list of 10 most important areas to concentrate on.

1. Clear Storefront Layout and Navigation – Design cannot be overlooked. A user should instantly feel like he or she knows what to do and what is being asked of him or her to get to a preferred destination. An ecommerce web site should home page almost always must include a search bar, a navigation bar with browse by category, special offers via a colorful rotation banner such as deal of the day, merchandising boxes that work together to offer popular items, security and confidence building purchase icons such as contact phone numbers with customer service links, SSL and secure experience icons, shipping and credit card/payment option logos, and a clearance or discount section.

2. Significant, Useable, Filterable, and Actionable Product Information – First, provide an easy to filter navigation and the option to compare items. This puts a user in charge of his or her own shopping destiny and encourages buying by increasing participation in the selection process. A good amount of content in each section and about each product allows users to learn more about your categories, products, your company, and the experience one can expect, building the consumer confidence needed to make a purchase and be happy about his or her decision.

3. Product Photos – Product photos are a big deal! Many users need to see, in good detail, the quality of the product he or she will receive. Include zoom tools so users can see the detail, even if you think this is not important. If your product warrants multiple angles or light shots, show them. Your users will reward you with a confident purchase, one less likeley to be returned. Best practice would be to find the best competitor out there and make sure your site has better or “as good” pictures as that site.

4. Calls to Action – Invest in features that will help customers interact with your site and understand your products better. Investment ideas are to go with some leading trends such as expandable interactive images, flash, interactive tours, videos, live chat with customer service, professional looking slideshows that show high level technical prowess, and the list goes on. The idea here is to provide a user an experience eh or she cannot find elsewhere.

5. In Your Face Product Promotion – When you go to a store are all products set up the same? Most likeley, no. A store’s objective is to push viewers to see many items in a way that is fashionable and exiting to the customer. Many stores forget that cross selling suggestions, product reviews, featured products sections, clearance areas, coupons, and any interactive presentation is seen. Push viewers to more interaction, and to buy today! Additionally, merchants that now provide advanced, exceedingly fast shopping experience tools such as AJAX can now gain a competitive advantage via site speed increase, earning customer loyalty and additional revenues.

6. Pricing – Low prices will attract customers. No matter how your products are sold (online or off) your price point matters, especially on the web where the next store is only a couple clicks or search queries away. Research your competitors to make sure you have a chance.

7. Customer Service and Shipping – Be Sure to help customers through the checkout process and offer a progress indicator. Show a receipt before an order is placed and let the customer change anything in the order. Action buttons should be clearly labeled. Often “place my order” is more clear than “submit” and “search” is more clear than “go.”

Keep your shipping and return policies at the forefront. Free shipping does work, but is not necessarily a problem solver since not every product has fat margins to subsidize UPS or USPS. One can handle shipping in a very impressive way by offering free shipping but also up-selling “rush processing” which does not offset UPS rates, but at least you can recoup something. Customers will take this up-sell, pleased that the order would be given priority. Do not forget to provide all order confirmation emails, shipping emails, and timely delivery. Try to lower your shipping prices as best as you can and offer free shipping as much as possible. Free Shipping does work!

8. Search Engine Optimization – Ecommerce search engine optimization, the art of moving your web site to the top of search engines, is more advanced than ever and now a “must have” for an ecommerce web site to compete online. One’s web site must come up on Google and other engines for search keywords and key terms related to your web site. Keys to SEO success are search engine friendly web design and development using searchable text and code, usable action reports and statistics to prove the work is paying off, buying web site traffic via pay per click management or alternates such as blog links or affiliate marketing ads, social bookmarking (Twitter, Face Book, Linked In, Etc.) and html rewrite for all cart/product detail pages generated dynamically via database applications (also called HTML mod rewrite).

9. Marketing and Public Relations – The art of managing your business reputation through media engagement is often overlooked and extremely important in ecommerce marketing communications. Map out a plan and make the time to execute. The aim here is to build relationships with conventional outlets with wide audiences such as conventional TV and Print, but also turning online to bloggers and other unique, targeted online distribution, equally as effective with more measurability than ever before. Whether your products are tied to a charity or are organic, let them know! Further, in the event that something negative should be reported, a strong public relations team with good relationships can mitigate any damage to your company’s reputation.

10. Elevate A Brand Via User Experience Tracking and Strategy Evolution; Get an Edge with Advanced Customer Service! – The idea is to beat the competition, right? Google Analytics (free) to track your user experiences and search engine placement. Review all of your competitors site’s to make sure your features are better, your content is better, your photos are better, your customer service is better, your shipping strategy is faster and cheaper, your PR campaign is stronger, your newsletters and coupons are easier to read and find, and more. A web site cannot be left alone for 6 months. A good web site is one that is always changing with the market and with the times. Read online blogs and trade magazines to stay on top, incorporating all of the features user’s expect so a store keeps its edge.

If you follow these ecommerce website development and design standards, you can make an effective online presence of your business in Ecommerce world.

When it comes to doing online business, you need to have the right tools at hand. You need to maximize on the capabilities of your business while leveraging on the power of technology at the same time. By doing so, not only will you be able to reap more profits, but you will also be able to get to your goals faster.

Since the online business industry is getting more and more competitive each day, you need to stay on top of your business so that you don’t get left behind. You need to have what your competitors have, and if possible—more. If you are not able to differentiate yourself in positive ways from others who offer the same products or services, your business is bound to die.

You should also consider the needs of your business in order to determine which tools are going to be best for your business. There may also be chances that you will need more than one tool to provide your particular need, so don’t limit yourself to just one.

There are so many e-commerce software to choose from, each falling under certain categories. Maybe you need one that can create invoices for you in the soonest possible time. Or perhaps your business needs particular software that can calculate estimated costs for your clients. You would want to buy e commerce software that can do what you need them to do, so take your time in studying various kinds of software before making a decision.

When selecting an e-commerce software, as much as possible, ask first for a free demo version so that you can explore what that program has to offer before you buy it. This is important since a refund for such programs usually do not exist. Instead, the warranties offered are usually limited to replacements if the software does not work properly.

If you take all these into consideration, you will be more than happy with the software that you will be getting for your business, and you will watch your business get closer to its goals sooner than you can imagine.

Web development services in India have changed the face of the internet in a remarkable way. With more and more companies marketing their products online and customers relying heavily on the internet, web development has picked up radically. Most of us now enjoy the facility of buying commodities or goods online from the very comforts of our own homes instead of visiting stores, malls and shops and searching in person for what we need. This not only helps saves time but also saves the hassles and the efforts that one has to put up with in order to reach nearby stores or malls.

Web development initially was thought to be limited to the designing aspect of creating an appealing website. However, nowadays web development is much more than that. It would include many others modules like e-commerce, online videos, advertisement campaigns, creating online inventories, online stores, tutorials and much more. The scope of web development can range from developing simple static web pages of plain text to the most complex web-based internet applications, electronic businesses, or social network services.

Large setups and organizations would usually have a huge portal running on the internet marketing their products and services hence they would hire a web development team comprising of many web developers to maintain their website for them. On the contrary, smaller setups would usually hire a webmaster or a small team of graphic designers to help maintain their site for them. Web development may only be a successful proposition if all departments in one organization present a collaborative effort towards it.

Web development has become a very easy job as compared to the past. There are many software tools available like for example Adobe Dreamweaver, Photoshop or Microsoft Expression Studio which can help you in developing a classy website in no time at all. These tools are so user friendly that extensive knowledge of HTML or any other programming is not all required. You can effortlessly place pictures, graphics and create web pages beyond your wildest dreams.

Many small to large companies have engaged web development companies to create for them backend tools like Content Management Systems through which their webmaster can update their website for them. Again, no expert knowledge is required in running these CMS packages and they can update your website in no time at all. Open source CMS codes like Drupal, Joomla and Xoops are freely available. They just need to custom programmed to meet the individual requirements of a company.

Costs involved in web development are not as what it used to be a couple of years back. In fact there are many sites available on the internet which can help you build a site based on your basic requirement at very low rates. However, if you own a company and are looking for slightly complex web applications to be created for your site then it is always best to hire a web development company. Web Development in India is on the rise and there are many experienced and professional companies providing efficient services. One needs to be cautious while choosing the right Web Development partner and should look into various aspects such as the solution offered, the costs, the communication level of the company and ufcourse the standard of quality that the company offers. IT Chimes is one of the leading Web Development companies in India and with a portfolio of more than 100 clients worldwide and 300 successful projects already delivered they have the confidence to take on complex project and offer efficient and result oriented solutions.

Web Development Company-is the buzz word, but not many people understand the true meaning of Web Development. Most people associate Web Designing with Web Development, which is not only misleading but really cramps up the vision of what real Web Development can do. Web Development is the larger picture where Web Designing is just a small part of it. Not taking away the credit from a good designed website, it cannot really answer important queries and does not provide the interactive functionalities that a good website which is developed using the right technology can.

Just to have a flash or a professional corporate website is not enough in today’s business world. The consumers have become savvier and they need an extra push to really get interested of what you want to present from your website. A good Web Development India company is aware of this and firstly delves into the actual requirement of the business for which the website is being developed. There are important factors which need to be considered such as the technology platform to be used which could vary from Open source to Windows, depending on the security that the website requires, traffic that the website will create and the type of users that will actually use the web platform. Then there is the need for interaction. In today’s world most recognized and successful websites are highly interactive and provide a two way communication where in the user can actually talk to the website and find answers to his queries. There are functionalities such as Blogs, Forums, Message Board which if used in the right manner can create a huge difference to make a website successful.

In simple words, a good Web Development Company company will help you develop a website that will get you the desired results at present and will have the room to absorb future technological advancements to have your website be updated at all times. Do not loose the opportunity that the Internet World has opened today.

Search engine optimization is all about ensuring that your web pages are accessible to search engines and are focused in ways that help improve the chances they will be found. There are certain aspects that should be taken in during the seo of your website.

Compelling Headlines

Write titles/ headlines that actually appeal to human beings. This is because while you improve your search engine ranking, you can greatly improve the quality of visitor that arrives at your website too. Also your conversion rate will be improved if your website attracts more relevant visitors.
The search engine look for the heading tags. Search engine optimization Florida will let you provide something to focus on and let search engine know what your page is about. Use heading tags h1 (the main page heading), h2 (other headings on the page), h3 (sub-headings of the h2s) and so on down as far as h6. There are three ways in which you can make compelling headings or titles:
1.Problem vs. solution
Ex: Is your business ranking going down?
2.Question vs. statement trigger
Ex: Are you finding it difficult to improve your online business profits?
3.Eye – catcher / curious vs. non- curious.
Ex: 10 ways in which you can improve your business ranking in search engines.
