We know that some of pet owners want to set boundaries to contain their pets for several reasons, whether it may with the use of visible or hidden fence, to contain pets. There are several types of containment fence that pet owners can choose from.

Invisible and Visible Fence

Visible dog fences are more straightforward way and permanent such as picket fence and snow fence. In erecting these fences, you have to consider the size of your dog. Making sure there are no spaces or gaps between where which you pet can escape through. However, if you want to make sure that your pet is contained safely in your yard, another type of visible fence is the brick wall. This is more costly compared to snow fence and picket fence though. Another consideration in putting up a fence is the local zoning regulation and what types of fences are allowed in your community.

If you do not want the visible type of pet fence, you can still use the hidden or invisible type. There are two types of invisible dog fence, the underground and the wireless. Underground dog fence consist of transmitter, a receiver that is attached to the collar of the dog and wire that is buried in the ground. Wireless consists only of transmitter and receiver. Transmitter transmits a signal that produces a mild static shock to the dog when it nears the specified boundaries. When it comes to cost and maintenance, invisible fences are less expensive than the traditional fencing or visible fence. Invisible fences are more flexible than visible fence. With the use of invisible fence, you can put a specific perimeter to limit the places that your dog can access, such as around flower bed, or around the pool. Also, they are more preferred by pet owners when it comes to convenience. You don’t have to put a traditional fence which is additional labor on your part and no need to consider any zoning regulations.

It is extremely important to put a fence to contain pets for their safety and for your peace of mind. There are several options and ways to do that. You just have to choose what will work best for you and for your pet.

There are some misconceptions about dog shock collars and how they really work. The shock that is emitted by collars is minimal and safe to the dog. The shock that is emitted depends on the level that you specify on the collar. Dog shock collars are used to train or for behavior modification of dogs. The use of dog shock collar depends on the behavior of your dog that you want to modify. Some of dog collars are designed to stop or reduce the excessive barking of dog. This is sometimes referred as electronic dog collar. There are various types of dog shock collar available in the market that you can choose from. In choosing or purchasing a shock collar for your dog, there are things to consider. It is more than just choosing the expensive ones. It is best to take into accounts the safety of your dog in choosing a dog collar.

First, consider the age and size of your dog. If your dog is still a puppy, select a flat buckle collar that is safe for your dog. If the dog is fully grown, a type of collar that would be sufficient should be strong. Make sure that the collar you use for your dog fits well as they will not be choke. Second, consider the personality or breed of your dog. If your dog is strong and has a tendency to be stubborn, make sure you choose a sturdier collar that is suitable to his attitude. Consider also the material of the collar that you use for your dog. There is wide range of materials for dog shock collar. The most popular are leather and nylon. These two are durable and less expensive.

To make sure that the use of shock collar to your dog is safe, consult a veterinarian. The improper use of these devices can harm your pet so, it would be ideal if you consult a professional. Dog training is not easy and takes time and effort on the part of the owner to train their pet. It needs constant reinforcement from the owner to make the dog understand and recognize the things that you want to teach them.

Underground fences for pets have become popular to pet owners. Underground fences or hidden fences are not actually a fence. It is a term used for radio-signaled device used by pet owners as containment system. Depending on the type of system, this device operates with the use of wire, installed underground or above ground that transmits a radio signal that a wire, acting as an antenna, turns into an electromagnetic wave and transmit a radio signals to a receiver collar worn by the dog. When the collar gets within range of the boundary, it emits a warning tone audible to the dog, and when the collar crosses the boundary, it emits a signal that causes a static-like shock.

This type of containment has been used to most states that have a dog containment law. Pet owners cannot let their pets to wander the neighborhood freely. There are other ways to contain a pet, such as, cages, chain links and even with the use of traditional physical fence.

Unlike the traditional fence, this system is easy to install and maintain. It is less expensive than putting up a fence or chain link fences. You can use a hidden fence to surround areas that you want to protect such as your pool or garden without having to add an unsightly fence. This system is usually acceptable with neighborhood associations that do not approve physical fences. This is also a great alternative if your do not want physical fence hindering your view of the neighborhood. This type of system is also great for indoors to keep dogs out of certain area or rooms inside your house.

Training is necessary in using this type of fence. When the dog learns to return to the yard after hearing the tone it is time for the dog to experience the physical correction give him/her a reward or praise. After about a week, try off leash training. Slowly, the dog will learn his/her boundary.

Dog doors, often referred to as doggie doors or pet doors are miniature swinging doors that, installed in a door or wall, will allow your dog or cat access to the backyard without making it necessary for someone to let them in and out. This would be convenient for the pet owner because they do not need to be interrupted by their pet if the pet wants to go outdoors. Dog doors or pet doors are easy way to solve some pet-related issues such as indoor soiling or urinating. Some dogs have a hard time communicating when they need to go outside, they need to learn the skill to be able to communicate with the owner effectively. With, the dog doors install on your doors, you pet can go in and out of the house immediately. With the use of pet doors, you can also eliminate the scratches on your doors.

There is a variety of dog doors that is available in the market today. Pet owners will have plenty to choose from that would suit their preference and dog’s need. What are the things to consider in selecting a door for your dog? In selecting a pet door, first you have to consider the size of your pet. The size usually ranges from small that could accommodate dogs such as Chihuahuas and Teacup Poodles, medium for dogs such as Beagle, large for dogs such as German Shepherds and extra large for dogs such as Rottweilers.

The next thing to consider in selecting a door for your pet is the type of door. The usual materials for these are thick plastics, vinyl and rubber.

Types of Dog Doors

Vinyl flaps. This type of door is made of heavy vinyl that can make entrance and exit for your dogs and stops other small animals such as rodents from entering your home.

Magnetic-locked door. This is like the top-hinged version, but with an added magnetic switch that keeps the door closed until your dog, wearing a small magnet on his collar, triggers the switch to open. This door cuts down on drafts so it’s ideal for cold-weather climates.

Hinged at the top and swings both directions: this allows your dog to come and go, but has the drawback of allowing the same freedom to other animals his size or smaller.

The old adage that a dog is a man’s best friend remains true in modern times as pets of all kinds are now being treated more as one of the family.

One of the easiest ways to include a pet in a home is to give it the same sorts of treats as the human members of the household. Celebrating a dog’s birthday, for instance, can make him feel special and gives you a great reason to spend the whole day spoiling him. Nowadays, stores cater for such occasions with special birthday cakes as well as edible greeting cards. Cats will prefer a slightly different treat and kitty caviar is available from premium pet shops.

Clothes and canines are becoming more and more popular. Although some celebrities may buy dogs purely as a fashion accessory, many dogs are now being dressed to impress. Specialists sell everything a dog could wish for – from a fancy collar, to jewellery, to dresses – meaning dog owners now have the option to turn their pets into fashionistas.

Rather than buying an extravagant luxury, your pet may appreciate a less lavish gift that will give long term benefits. Does your dog have a comfortable bed? Is your cat flap in need of an upgrade? Would your bird like a larger cage to fly about in? Whilst these gifts may not show an immediate change in your pet, over the next few weeks and months you should hopefully notice that he seems happier as he makes use of his new environment.

If you adopted your pet, you may not know its actual date of birth. If this is the case, rather than celebrating its birthday, you could always use National Dog Day – 26 August – as the day for spoiling your pet. Other animals celebrate their dedicated days on different dates – cats on 29 October and birds on 5 January.

Although not as entertaining as giving toys or presents, buying pet insurance is a very practical gift to give and shows that you care. Most policies will provide cover for expenses incurred if your pet ever needs to visit the vet – something that can be very costly if your animal ever needs major or lengthy treatment.

Of course, with the best presents it is always the thought that counts. Sometimes the best thing to give is something simple – a dog will always appreciate a walk in the park and a stick to chase – and splashing out is not always necessary.

For some pet owners, a pet containment system may sound like a bad idea. Actually, there are several good reasons why you should contain your pet. Some of these are safety and sanitation not just for the pet but also for pet owners.

Safety
Although it is necessary for pets to be able to roam around, exercise and play for them to be healthy and active, it is also important to consider the safety of the pets and the people around. Pets, especially dogs are born curious animals. You need to limit them in areas that might be harmful to them or in areas that they might harm other people. The best way to keep your dog safe is to contain him/her in your yard or home. There is a chance that your pet may be run by a vehicle if you left them unsupervised and uncontained. Since some pet owners do not want an unsightly fence around their home or have ordinances against visual fences, an electronic containment system is an ideal way to prevent your pet from leaving your property.

There are circumstances also where you let your pet go with you on trip by car. It is important to have your pet contained inside your car to avoid mishap and accident that could be dangerous not just for owner but also for the pet. There are several types of containment available in the market to choose from that would suit the preference of pet owner and the needs of pet.

Sanitation
Sanitation is another reason why it is advisable to contain pets. You might be comfortable having your pet roaming not just outside your house but also inside. However, you cannot let your pet have the access to every space inside your house. There are areas and corner in your house that should not let your pet have an access such as kitchen and dinning area. These are the places in your house where foods are kept, prepared and served. No matter how much you keep your pet clean chances are their hair might go to your food.

Are you having trouble controlling your dog from barking? Does it often cause disruption and disturbance in your neighborhood? Well, you cannot stop your dog from barking, it is in their nature to bark. Barking is their means of communicating or giving warning to their masters. You can however, control the excessive barking of your dog. You can use the natural method such as yelling or reprimanding. Some dogs respond to this verbal reprimanding. Another natural way is splashing water in their face when they bark excessively. Naturally, you cannot do this everytime your dog barks excessively. With the help of latest technology, there are several devices that can help you control the unwanted barking of your dog.

Citronella Collars

Many people feel the static collars are inhumane and opt for the citronella collars instead. This type of collar is said to be the most humane. This collar works the same way the static collars do, but instead of delivering static it hisses and sprays citronella. Dogs do not like smell of citronella, which makes this product very effective. The smell of citrus will distract your dog and stop their barking.

Static Anti-Bark Collars

One of the most effective methods for controlling the excessive barking of your dog is with the use of static shock collar. The collar has a device that fits tight against the voice box and, when the dog barks, a static shock is delivered. The intensity of the shock varies depending on how loud your dog has barked.

Ultrasonic Collars

This is another one of the bark control collar that is considered more humane in comparison to the static collars. It works the same, but emits an ultrasonic tone in response to a dog’s bark. This will also cause distraction to that will stop dog from excessive barking.

In order to get the right bark control collar that is suitable for your dog, determine what the usual causes of their barking are. One should take care and ensure that one does not use the dog barking collar in case the barking is a result of separation, anxiety, fear or phobia.
