Three Guidelines for Cell Phone Etiquette

The advent of wholesale cell phones has made this state-of-the-art telecommunication method low-priced, widely accessible and at this point, ubiquitous. That popularity requires attention to the issue of cell phone etiquette: what are the “musts” for appropriate cell phone use? The following are three criteria for making wholesale cell phone usage acceptable to everyone.

One, do not pick up a cell phone in the midst of a talk with another person or in an assembly of folks. Although some people, especially the younger generation, have a great toleration for doing more than one thing at once, being interrupted, and switching attention from the folks they are talking to, in ordinary business and social settings, picking up a cell phone and terminating the immediate conversation is indecorous. Cell phone wholesalers offer versions of the product with various options that can avoid the problem: select a cell phone and a service package that can record messages; be sure you have caller i.d. and a way to keep track of “missed calls”; and be able to turn off the ringtone so you can ignore it. And don’t think that texting is okay because it is silent – you are still disregarding the real life discussion that you are having.

Two, keep your voice down. What is it about cell phones that lets users think they can or have to be so ear-splitting? The other people in the deli or theater or hardware store just do not want to overhear your discussion about your aunt’s surgery or horrendous recent dates. Even if you own a relatively cheap wholesale cell phone, that doesn’t mean you are doomed to inadequate sound quality – to the contrary, your caller will hear you just fine and if not, put down the phone and call again from a different location or at a different time where signal and sound quality are better.

Third, hang up when you are required to pay attention to some other job. What is more annoying than standing in a retail store line while somebody in front of you fumbles with their order, pauses, and ignores the clerk because they are mumbling on their cell phone or text messaging furiously? Likewise, the whole question of using a cell phone while driving is controversial, but cell phone wholesalers suggest at least the use of a microphone and ear piece while driving or engaged in other functions that ideally require use of both hands and focused attention.

Cell phone civility is actually a matter of common sense. Text with your cell phone in appropriate circumstances and with due regard for privacy and the predilections of people around you. Then you can enjoy the benefits of this fabulous high-tech gadget, without guilt!
